Numbers 8:4-6
New English Translation

4 This is how the lampstand was made:[a] It was beaten work in gold;[b] from its shaft to its flowers it was beaten work. According to the pattern that the Lord had shown Moses, so he made the lampstand.

  1. Numbers 8:4 tn The Hebrew text literally has “and this is the work of the lampstand,” but that rendering does not convey the sense that it is describing how it was made.
  2. Numbers 8:4 sn The idea is that it was all hammered from a single plate of gold.
  3. Numbers 8:6 tn The Piel of טָהֵר (taher) means that Moses was “to purify” or “to make ceremonially clean” the Levites so that they could enter the sanctuary and do the work prescribed for them. Whatever is “unclean” is not permitted in the sanctuary at all.
